Polyheal has developed innovative technology for treating chronic wounds

(TASE: CBI), an investment company specializing in the life sciences, announced today that Polyheal Ltd., a portfolio company, has received the CE Mark to market in Europe Polyheal-1, the product it has developed for treating chronic wounds.

Approximately 2% of the population suffers from chronic wounds that cause great suffering, have an adverse impact upon the quality of their lives and are expensive for the patients and their families. The innovative treatment Polyheal has developed can significantly shorten the period of healing, lessen the patient’s suffering and reduce the cost involved. Polyheal has developed the product Polyheal-1 for treating chronic wounds, based on polymer microspheres that lead to the healing of serious wounds and the renewal of dead tissue and damaged skin cells.

Chronic wound management start-up Polyheal Ltd. has raised $1 million from current investors, including Clal Biotechnology Industries Ltd. (TASE: CBI). The company has raised $10 million to date from CBI, Challenge Fund - Etgar, Koonras Technologies Ltd., LN Technology Innovations Ltd., and Technorov Holdings Ltd.
The company will use the proceeds for clinical trials of its product in the US. The product will soon be launched in Europe following approval of its product as a medical device.
Polyheal’s product is a sterile disposable suspension for the treatment of chronic wounds. The product is based on a suspension of microspheres and do not contain additional therapeutic substances. Topical application of the product onto the lesion promotes healing in chronic recalcitrant ulcers of different etiologies - diabetic, venous insufficiency, and trauma.

פוליהיל גייסה כבר ממשקיעים אלה כ-11 מיליון דולר ומתכוונת להרחיב את מערך הניסויים הקליניים
חברת פוליהיל, שבשליטת כלל תעשיות ביוטכנולוגיה ועוסקת בטכנולוגיה חדשנית לריפוי פצעים כרוניים, גייסה בסוף השבוע האחרון כמיליון דולר ממשקיעיה. המשקיעים, בהובלת כלל ביוטכנולוגיה, השקיעו עד כה בפוליהיל 11 מיליון דולר. את הכסף שגוייס תנצל החברה להרחבת מערך הניסויים הקליניים.
פוליהיל פיתחה תרופה לריפוי פצעים כרוניים, המבוססת על כדוריות מיקרוניות של פולימר, הגורם להחלמה של פצעים חמורים ולהתחדשות רקמות מתות ותאי עור הרוסים. החברה ערכה מספר ניסויים קליניים אשר הצביעו על הצלחה ומתכננת בשבועות הקרובים לבצע ניסוי נוסף.
דב רייכמן, מנכ"ל פוליהיל ציין כי "האסטרטגיה של החברה בשלב זה מתמקדת בהרחבת הניסויים הקליניים והעמקת הממצאים שבידה". רייכמן הוסיף כי החברה נמצאת בשלבים מתקדמים לקראת קבלת האישור לשיווק התרופה שפותחה באירופה.
רייכמן ציין עוד כי "כ-2% מהאוכלוסייה סובלים מפצעים כרוניים הגורמים לסבל רב, הפוגעים במידה ניכרת באיכות החיים ועולים כסף רב לחולים ולבני משפחותיהם". לדעתו של רייכמן, הטיפול החדשני יכול לקצר את משך הריפוי בצורה מהותית, להקטין את הסבל של החולה ולחסוך בעלויות.
